PROHIBITION OF PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS BY BOARD MEMBERS

Author: HQ USAF WASHINGTON DC//DPP//

 1. BOARD MEMBERS SERVING ON CENTRAL OFFICER PROMOTION BOARDS AND
ENLISTED EVALUATION BOARDS ARE NOW PROHIBITED FROM SHARING THEIR
PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS FOLLOWING DUTY AS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. IT IS
IMPORTANT THAT PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS NOT JEOPARDIZE THE CREDIBILITY OF
THE BOARD PROCESS. AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OF SHARED PERSONAL
OBSERVATIONS IS THAT OUR AIRMEN MAY FOCUS ON ONE PERSON S PERCEPTION OF A SILVER BULLET PERFORMANCE REPORT COMMENT INSTEAD OF ON THEIR
PERFORMANCE AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

2. THE SELECTION BOARD SECRETARIAT STAFF WILL REMIND BOARD MEMBERS THAT THEY ARE NOT TO SHARE PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS FOLLOWING BOARD MEMBER DUTY. BOARD MEMBERS MAY, AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO, USE THE BRIEFING SLIDES PROVIDED BY THE BOARD SECRETARIAT STAFF TO BRIEF THE BOARD PROCESS AND STRUCTURE. ENLISTED EVALUATION BOARD MEMBERS MAY ALSO USE THE AIR FORCE ENLISTED EVALUATION BOARD VIDEO TO BRIEF ENLISTED AIRMEN. THIS WILL HELP ENSURE OUR AIRMEN RECEIVE A CONSISTENT AIR FORCE MESSAGE AND PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF THE BOARD PROCESS.
